The years I spent in the vapor industry were nothing less than amazing, starting in 2011, as VP of Compliance & Logistics with an ecig retailer, then executive director and president of the Smoke-Free Alternatives Trade Association, the largest vapor trade association ever.
And a new chapter beings as I step into the role of chief strategy officer for Hometown Hero CBD, headquartered in Austin, Texas. Hometown Hero was established in 2015 and has been on a rapid upward trajectory ever since. They have amply demonstrated their ability to innovate, pivot, grow and maintain their customer base. More than that, they have proven they are willing to fight for their industry, most notably suing the state of Texas and receiving an injunction on the prohibition of certain hemp products. In my new role I oversee compliance, legal and state and federal legislative efforts to ensure the future and viability of hemp derived cannabinoid products.
Fighting for YOUR right to healthy alternatives across the United States.
As an attorney in the cannabis space since 2011, Philip dedicates most of his time utilizing his broad experience to help inform and drive sensible regulations and policy movement within the industry. Since starting with the nation's first marijuana only law firm and taking part in the passage of Colorado's historic Amendment 64, Philip has focused his efforts helping small businesses succeed amid rapidly evolving regulatory landscapes in the cannabis industry. More recently, Philip has focused his practice on the nascent hemp and cannabinoid industry. As a solutions-oriented attorney, he works with clients to comply with rules and regulations governing all aspects of the hemp supply chain. In addition to this, Philip regularly advises state legislators, state agencies, and Members of Congress on the drafting and creation of policies that balance consumer safety with market demand. His work builds upon existing foundations while advocating for responsibility and legitimacy within the hemp industry across the country.I have been an attorney in the cannabis industry for the past twelve years after I started working at the nation's first marijuana-only law firm. Since then, I have represented cannabis businesses in both existing and emerging markets across the United States and Canada. Much of my practice has focused on helping new businesses get licensed and then helping them remain compliant with the constantly evolving regulations in the cannabis industry. I am a licensed attorney in CO.
When I'm not working on exciting projects in the fast-paced cannabis industry, I can be found outside hiking, kayaking and golfing.
A true advocate, my talent translates to creating and delivering the message that advances your agenda.
With over twenty years of legal and legislative experience, I am proud to represent forward-thinking clients from a diverse business landscape.
I work with industry stakeholders, trade groups, committee staff, federal agencies, and Congressional members on both sides of the aisle to drive sound policy solutions and ultimately, create balanced pathways to market for innovative products.
My legal career started in private practice as criminal defense counsel in Austin, Texas, and for the past 10 years, I have worked as legislative and regulatory counsel, General Counsel, and In-House Counsel for entrepreneurs, and small-to-medium size companies. I have expertise in working with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), and a solid network of colleagues to amplify the Client’s presence if need be.
I have spoken nationally on issues germane to my work and am committed to realizing the successful intersection of consumer safety, appropriate agency oversight and unencumbered innovation.
